Influence of Mentoring and Achievement Goal Orientation on Self-Management for High School Soccer Athletes

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The Purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of Mentoring and Achievement Goal Orientation on Self-Management for high school soccer athletes.

METHOD: Participants were 186 high school soccer athletes from ChonBuk. They submitted responses to three questionnaires measuring Mentoring, Achievement Goal Orientation, Self-Management respectively. We conducted the Exploratory Factor Analysis and Cronbach ¥á Analysis to found Construct Validity and Reliability. Quartile Split used for turning the continuous variable, Mentoring, into a 3 categorical levels(High, Middle, Low) and Median Split used for turning the continuous variable, Achievement Goal Orientation, into a 4 categorical Group(Mastery High-Ego High, Mastery High-Ego Low, Mastery Low-Ego High, Mastery Low-Ego Low), and the data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. Finally We conducted Correlation and Regression Analysis.

RESULT: Physical Management was significantly different according to the variables of Mentoring Level. Self Management and Mental Management was significantly different according to the variable of Achievement Goal Orientation Group. There is a interaction effect on Self-Management. Mentoring, Achievement Goal Orientation and Self-Management are strongly Correlated. Self-Management and its sub factor was mainly influenced by psycho?social function and mastery goal orientation.

CONCLUSION: Based on these results, Self-Management of High School Soccer Athletes was differentiated by Mentoring level and Achievement Goal Orientation Groups. Mentoring, Achievement Goal Orientation and Self-Management are strongly Correlated. Finally, Self-management of high school soccer athletes was influenced by Mentoring and achievement goal orientation.
